From 50-year-old vines. Really aromatic – really an open and interesting nose that becomes extra floral with some aeration. Intense, elegant, more direct and with fine focus. A great terrior wine, super long finish with lots of graphite complexity. Well here it's a wonder that this isn’t cru Beaujolais; both red wines here from Mont Joly are ‘Village’. But they have the brightness, flesh and structure to shame plenty of – on paper – better wines. Bright, juicy, layered, and simply delicious. The story goes much deeper, into eco-friendly farming, JB Bachevillier is a young winemaker with a deep connection to the Domaine de Mont Joly property (and a startlingly good wine-making resume), who practices low intervention and sensitive winemaking.  La Pointe is more structured and reticent, perhaps destined for a longer life.
